The slow fashion and progressive media brand empowering desi womxn will host a week-long popup in Brick Lane, Shoreditch on 3 October 2019

We're a slow fashion brand and believe clothes are artifacts that should be maintained for a long time so we want people to have the chance to see them up close before making a purchase.”

— Natasha Sumant, founder of Gundi Studios

SHOREDITCH, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, September 17, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Gundi Studios, the streetwear label and progressive media brand that celebrates outspoken South Asian womxn in motherland, diaspora and beyond today announced its upcoming popup at Studio 220 Brick Lane, London, from 3 October to 7 October 2019. The Gundi popup will include an opening party for guests. Gundi Studios’ core mission is to honour and support women through fashion and art in partnership with suppliers that meaningfully impact them.

Gundi Studios was founded by Natasha Sumant, a creative director based between Brooklyn and Bombay, to honour desi womxn through a collection of handmade streetwear created through a woman-centered supply chain in India. Desi womxn are all women, including transgender women, of South Asian descent, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka and their respective diasporas.

Gundi is the Hindi word for ‘female-thug’ or ‘gangsta’, a colloquialism used to describe girls who misbehave. The brand was launched in 2017 in response to the lack of representation of assertive and independent South Asian women.

In 2019, Gundi Studios is going on tour, and will be hosting week-long popups on three continents: in Bombay, New York, and London. As well as offering the Gundi community the opportunity to see and try on Gundi clothing, each space will feature an immersive art installation, host community events, and bring together a group of key South Asian influencers to create a local ‘Gundi Gang’.

“We're taking our collection on tour to give people the chance to experience our brand and what we stand for in person,” says Natasha Sumant, founder of Gundi Studios. “We're a slow fashion brand and believe clothes are artefacts that should be maintained for a long time so we want people to have the chance to see them up close before making a purchase.”

Gundi Studios produces clothing in small batches, honouring the human cost of creating clothing. All of Gundi pieces are handmade and embroidered in India, using traditional zardozi techniques to protect ancient craft from disappearance, and counterbalance the fast pace set by global fashion brands incentivising mass production of lower-quality clothing.

“Everything we do has a feminist slant,” says Sumant. “The clothes in our collection have design details that reference resistance movements, we prioritise working with suppliers that create meaningful opportunities for women, and our art depicts and celebrates bold and independent women.”

The Gundi range of streetwear-inspired styles is available for pre-order on the Gundi website. For more information about Gundi Studios and their upcoming popup at Studio 220 Brick Lane, London from 3 October to 7 October 2019, or to view the collection, visit www.gundistudios.com

Littérateur Turned Haute-Couture Designer Dazzles Observers During New York Fashion Week

Sienna Li showcasing her s/s 2020 collections at Pier 59 during New York Fashion Week

Model walks on the runway wearing Sienna Li’s s/s 2020 collection

Sienna Li s/s 2020 New York Fashion Show finale

NEW YORK CITY, NY, UNITED STATES, September 13, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Featured in Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire and leading industry media organs worldwide, Sienna Li, after showing her line at the beautiful Baccarat Hotel and the Jane Ballroom in the past two seasons, took a significant leap forward and presented her breathtaking Spring/Summer 2020 haute-couture collection on September 6th at Pier 59, one of the major venues serving New York Fashion Week.

Sienna’s SS20 collection was inspired by the timeless belief that meteorology and mythology are deeply connected, an elemental symbiosis in multiple civilizations. The visual beauty and powerful forces of weather and climate have long been suggestive both of what is divine and what is evil. In her forthcoming collection, Sienna Li manifests this connection in the realm of fashion, exploring a juxtaposition of those opposing concepts–divinity and evil–shaped by the multifaceted natural beauty of meteorologic phenomena.

Unlike her previous collections featuring lace and embroidered or printed fabric, Sienna used mostly tulles for her latest creations, utilizing multiple couture-making techniques such as hand-pleating, draping, and Sienna’s unique fabric manipulation, and more. The implementation of extensive handwork creates a sense of liquidity, inspired by and echoing the ever-changing patterns of weather and climate. The hand-pleated textures give life to the garments and suggest vivid movement, such as wind blowing over the surface of water or clouds shifting and changing over time.

Blended hues reflect the colors of the sky: white and black standing for day and night and mixed colors representing the colors of dawn, dusk, a sunny day, storm clouds, etc. The colors and silhouettes are also symbolic of the opposing forces of Good and Evil, rendering the style of this collection at once both fairy-tale and gothic.

Distinct from many of her designer peers, Sienna’s creative philosophy evolved from her knowledge and experiences beyond fashion. In China, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese literature, followed by Master’s in English literature conferred in the UK. Her early studies of narrative accomplishment provided her with a sophisticated, romantic, and creative perspective not merely on writing, but pertaining also to art and fashion. Upon graduation, Sienna worked as a full-time journalist in London for China Daily, China’s largest English-language newspaper, where she interviewed a distinguished array of talented artists and fashion designers who eventually inspired her, in terms of personal passion, to switch gears to the fashion track.

“Fashion is not completely alien to literature. My life has changed from reading and writing to seeing and making,” Sienna explains. “Practical techniques were altered to a different field. Essentially, however, there’s no big difference between the two fields as humanity and as art.”

Bearing this passion in her heart, not long after winding down her journalistic responsibilities, Sienna was accepted by Central Saint Martins before enrolling in Parsons New School of Design. Her unique educational background has provided her with proficiency in design, patternmaking, and manufacturing. She refined her expertise and business sense employed later by the renowned design studio operated by Jason Wu and Johnathan Cohen.

Distilling classic romance to reflect a modern sensibility, Sienna creates upscale, ready-to-wear and custom-made couture that welcome ladies to enter the designer’s delightful and graceful aesthetic world. With imaginative designs featuring original construction, silhouette and finishing, Sienna Li fashions deliver unexpected beauty, celebrating tasteful stylishness with an engaging light sense of mystery.

Sienna describes herself as someone who stubbornly sticks to what she’s drawn to and who retains full integrity in her own spiritual realm. The way she focuses on design is the same as she used to be in literature. As fast-paced as the ever-changing world of fashion can be, Sienna’s design, however, always pursues Timeless Beauty.

In a utilitarian sense, Sienna sees herself as an entrepreneur before fashion designer, in that she experiences a multitude of practical, down-to-earth challenges every day. She recognized from the outset and still acknowledges that to excel as a fashion designer, one needs to be an entrepreneur first with a solid, credible business mindset.

“Fashion may seem to be one of the most fancy industries, but running a successful business in fashion can be as cutthroat as any competitive industry, if not more.” Sienna noted. “And for me, I have the same challenges faced by any entrepreneur. The challenge is to run my company as a promising business without sacrificing the collections from being artistically creative. Multi-tasking is my best friend.”

The Sienna Couture line engages and influences women who wish to present themselves in the most elegant light, striking yet subtly beautiful, whether at a gala or on a red carpet. Yet Sienna knows that haute couture is never for everyone, thus her Sienna Li Epic line was born—a sister brand attuned more to daily-wear occasions and more affordable.

“Haute couture is always a luxury that few can afford, and I don’t want that—so I hope Sienna Li Epic will bring true and affordable fashion into more people’s lives, and more aspiring women like myself can feel and touch fashion every day. That’s my dream.”

The new line of Sienna Li Epic will hit the market very soon—by the end of 2019.

Blancore New York Fashion Week Debut: A Tribute to American Fashion

Opening scene of Blancore NYFW debut

Olivia Palermo joins Blancore CEO Linfei Deng at front row

Blancore New York Fashion Show debut at Spring Studios

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, September 13, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Showcasing its Spring/Summer 2020 collection, Blancore, the New York-based contemporary brand retailing worldwide, made its New York Fashion Week debut on September 5th at Spring Studios in the heart of Manhattan.

New York fashion icon Olivia Palermo sat front row with Blancore CEO Linfei Deng in a beige faux leather trench from the brands AW19 collection.

Marie Claire China publisher Xiaodong Zhang, also in attendance, said of the show “This is a very sophisticated, well-developed collection for such a young brand, I look forward to seeing how they will grow.”

Blancore’s inspiration for SS20 is “water” in all its life-forms. Hauntingly mysterious music heralded a breathtaking opening sequence, three performers in white bodysuits appeared through the haze as lighting effects created a rippling blue pool in the middle of the runway.

“Water can be ubiquitous and ethereal, vanishing without a trace,” Yalan, Creative Director of Blancore, explained.

“When becoming mist and cloud, it says: you can reach me, but do not dominate me. When becoming a drop of rain or a vast ocean, it says: you can feel me, but do not define me. When becoming snow and frost, it says: I have more forms beyond your imagination.”

Blancore believes water defines the existence of every creature, infusing everything in every realm with vitality, representing limitless possibility everywhere.

Yalan was born to a family that had always cherished and prioritized fabrics and clothing. From a young age, she kept a close eye on the fashion kingdom her father had forged. Creating a brand, in fact, was already Yalan’s dream at the age of seven. Growing up in the fashion industry, surrounded by its complexities, intricacies, and rewards, Yalan was focused and particular from the start in her quest to identify a brand that could make her heart blossom. Her studies with American scholars and her passionate pursuit of art and art history inspired Yalan to establish a brand in the United States rather than participate in the management of the family business.
Thus Blancore was born.

Exceptionally skilled at sourcing inspiration from her own experiences and her perceptions of life’s details, Yalan and her line integrate business-management acumen with a sensitive feel for contemporary design. Graduated from Ohio State University, the young founder combined American style and minimalism with elegantly fine French “deconstruction,” applying both these conceits to her design creations, producing a beautiful and alluring “second skin” for men and women.

Forget the Boundaries.

Blancore designs each of its creations for individuals who are confident in themselves, positive about existence, willing to explore all dimensions and possibilities in life. The SS20 show acted on this mandate, with a truly diverse cast of models, featuring a gender fluid model in the opening and one of several models of color closing the show.

“We chose New York Fashion Week for our debut not only because Blancore was born here, but also because New York is unique in many ways—especially in the way that it embraces all colors of people and all walks of lives in its arms.”—said Youting, CMO of Blancore.

To date, Blancore’s monthly sales revenue has reached $100k, and the company is now gearing up for opening its first multi-purpose showroom in lower Manhattan. This summer, Blancore opened its first franchise store in a top-tier shopping mall in Chengdu–one of Western China’s most populous cities–and inked deals with more than 30 showrooms worldwide.

Blancore describes the Spring/Summer 2020 debut as its tribute to American fashion. “We believe that with the international influence and resources New York Fashion Week offers, Blancore will have exponential growth after our debut here,” said CEO Linfei.

Within the next three to five years, Blancore, now with offices in Milan and Shanghai, plans to enter 34 capital cities in China, with at least 50 stores opening in the Chinese mainland. It will also break into the markets of Canada, Japan, South Korea, Italy, the UK, France, Spain, as well as Australia, opening stores, joining hands with established showrooms, and working with distribution channels in all these regions.
