Craig’s involvement in the protective clothing industry began over 40 years ago, following an early career in motor racing. In the following years he became involved in the application of advanced protective materials. This led to a focus on ballistic protection and the design and manufacture of specialised garments for the Police, Security and Military markets, notably for the UK Special Forces.

Having this experience he was asked to set up the new TBA Ballistics (T&N Group PLC) manufacturing facility. The company became the main supplier of body armour to the UK MOD, and he was subsequently appointed as Body Armour Adviser to the NATO Soldier Modernisation Programme.

Since then his constant research and development work and knowledge of advanced materials has given the Defence Composites company a unique level of expertise. Defence Composites manufacturing facilities have a wide range of machinery together with a team of skilled seamstresses allowing them to cover a spectrum of possibilities. Their bespoke body armour outer covers are high quality and well regarded within the industry.

More than 60 mannequins have been placed at various restaurants, displaying items from 19 fashion boutiques in Vilnius’ Old Town Glass Quarter.

The global apparel market has been particularly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, dropping from its market value of $672 billion in 2019 to around $660 billion in 2020 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -1.9%. The decline is mainly due to economic slowdown across countries owing to the COVID-19 outbreak and the measures to contain it. These designers join three continuing designers-in-residence to receive mentoring and training to take their independent fashion businesses to the next level.

The CFI welcomes Amy Taylor and Lola Osire as they join Kpoene Kofi-Nicklin and Goli Parvinian, who began the CFI program in 2019, as well as Cara Farella, who returns for a third year after beginning with CFI in 2018. Brief descriptions of these talented designers are listed below.

The CFI provides emerging Chicago-based designers with resources, including work space, mentoring and workshops, to help grow their careers in fashion. Workshops range in topics from media training, creating business plans, cost analysis, and building a brand strategy to more artistic sessions like preparing patterns for production to color and proportion theory. Throughout the program, the designers have the chance to establish relationships with a network of industry professionals including lawyers, accountants, fashion buyers, merchandisers and branding, marketing and communications experts.
While CFI’s offices and workspaces, located in the Pedway of Macy’s State Street, remain closed due to COVID-19, the Incubator continues to provide robust programming as well a mentoring for both its current and alumni designers. CFI’s public events, which include expert panels speaking on a variety of fashion industry-related topics, have been put on hold for the time being.
