Congressmen Salud Carbajal and Brian Fitzpatrick Say ‘No More Killing Kangaroos for Athletic Shoes’

Nike and other major athletic shoe companies are fueling the world’s largest commercial slaughter of terrestrial wildlife”

— Wayne Pacelle

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, February 9, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — U.S. Representatives Salud Carbajal, D-Calif., and Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Penn., this week introduced the Kangaroo Protection Act to ban the sale of kangaroo body parts in the United States. The bill aims to curb the massive trade in kangaroo skins used by Nike, adidas, Puma, and other companies for manufacturing soccer shoes (“cleats”). Though sold throughout the world, the U.S. is the second-largest market, behind only the European Union. Animal Wellness Action, Animal Wellness Foundation, Center for a Humane Economy and SPCA International, the Michelson Center for Public Policy, and others applaud the initiative and call on lawmakers to pass the legislation.

“Nike and other major athletic shoe companies are fueling the world’s largest commercial slaughter of terrestrial wildlife,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy. “It’s time for the company to shed kangaroo skins from its product lines and embrace 21st-century sensibilities about wildlife protection.”

"Commercial shooters kill roughly two million wild kangaroos a year to profit from the trade in their skins, despite the availability of alternative fabrics that are of similar or better quality. While California has banned the sale of kangaroo products, enforcement of this inhumane practice is lacking," said Rep. Salud Carbajal, D-Calif. "I'm proud to stand against kangaroo trafficking and have introduced the Kangaroo Protection Act to make it illegal to exploit kangaroos in the United States and impose penalties for violations."

“Kangaroos are victims of the largest commercial slaughter of land-based wildlife in the world. As a member of the bipartisan Congressional Animal Protection Caucus and an outspoken defender of animals, I will continue to be committed to ensuring that our government is doing everything in its power to promote and protect animal welfare,” said Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Penn. “Our bipartisan Kangaroo Protection Act of 2021 will make it illegal to exploit kangaroos in the United States and ensure that penalties are imposed for violations. I am proud to join my colleague Rep. Carbajal in this fight."

Last week, Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy, working with two Hollywood filmmakers, released a widely shared, controversial short film on this topic. Using reverse sequencing, the film starts with a soccer player kicking a goal and ends with a kangaroo about to be killed in the Outback, tracing the distinct, connecting steps in between. View the video here.

Representative Carbajal and two other California lawmakers, inspired by a recent investigative report from the Center for a Humane Economy, wrote California Attorney General Xavier Becerra (President Biden’s nominee for Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services) urging full enforcement of California’s first-in-the-nation ban on kangaroo parts and other species. Though the ban has been solidly in place since 2016, Nike and other manufacturers and retailers throughout California openly defied the law with ongoing and brisk sales of kangaroo skin soccer shoes. Working with the Center, law enforcement personnel from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, local police, and prosecutors are beginning to enforce the law, Penal Code 653o. In the last month, the largest chain of soccer stores in California has stopped selling the euphemistically-titled “k-leather” models.

“Major sports brands continue to make soccer shoes from kangaroo skins, a throwback to the 1970s, even though today they offer hundreds of models without kangaroo skin, using high tech synthetics and plant-based fabrics that perform better on the pitch,” noted Meredith Ayan, executive director of SPCA International. “These companies have touted their sustainability goals and commitment to the environment yet are still driving this massive commercial kill.”

The Center issued a first-of-its-kind list of 72 models of kangaroo skin soccer shoes from adidas, Lotto, Mizuno, New Balance, Nike, Pantofolo d’Oro, Puma, and Umbro. Sportswear manufacturer Diadora stopped using kangaroo skin last year. The Center has a dedicated website on the issue, www.KangaroosAreNotShoes.org.

“It is unconscionable to kill wild animals for their hides when a plethora of high-quality synthetic products are available,” said Dr. Gary K. Michelson, founder, and co-chair of the Michelson Center for Public Policy. “California had the foresight to ban trade in kangaroo parts several years ago. Now is the time for the rest of the country to follow suit and end this barbaric activity that is only in the service of enhanced corporate profits.”.

Former Congressman Robert Mrazek introduced his version of the Kangaroo Protection Act last in 1988, and until now, no similar legislation has been advanced in Congress. The bill has been assigned to the Committee on the Judiciary.

The Center for a Humane Economy (“the Center”) is a non-profit organization that focuses on influencing the conduct of corporations to forge a humane economic order. The Center encourages businesses to honor their social responsibilities in a culture where consumers, investors, and other key stakeholders abhor cruelty and the degradation of the environment and embrace innovation as a means of eliminating both.

Luxury Fashion Brand RCSLA Visit Senegal Taking Stunning Photo & Video Shoot Just in Time for Black History Month

RCSLA is a fashion brand influenced by tribes and cultures. All this is showcased in their recent Senegal photo shoot surrounded by the nation’s stunning beauty

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, February 9, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Los Angeles based fashion studio RCSLA are increasingly well known for their fusion of traditional and modern influences to produce pieces and collections that are unique while still resonating in a deep, powerful way. In exciting news the brand recently took the opportunity to visit the land of RCSLA head designer Moustapha Ndiaye’s roots Senegal. A full photo and video shoot took place both in Dakar and in the remarkable car-free island Goree, off of Dakar’s coast. Goree is a Unesco world heritage site known for its role in the 15th to the 19th century Atlantic slave trade. The photo shoot and new video have been released for Black History Month, which RCSLA strongly endorse and supports. Early feedback for the new photo shoot and video has been very enthusiastic.

Ndiaye is a devoted traveler in addition to his passion for fashion and design. So far this love has taken him to over 20 countries, with most bringing in inspirational ideas that have helped enhance both his life and work.

“This trip to Senegal was a very powerful experience,” commented Ndiaye. “As a Senegalese American, Senegal is important to me and influences my work. But to also spend time on Goree and to think about what many of our ancestors went through in the slave trade is a moving experience. Senegal is my heritage and my source of inspiration.”

Check out the video documenting the trip here featuring the music of Meta Dia. Explore the stunning photo shoot at https://photos.app.goo.gl/sPtWYQ5EYRb87k6T7.

A part of RCSLA’s mission has been a rebellion against large corporate brands that have exploited African materials and styles while not fairly compensating the native people providing the materials fairly. RCSLA has worked hard to do the opposite with remarkable results not just in quality but also in the positive relationships the brand has established in America, Africa, and beyond.

The luxury brand’s latest collection can be explored and ordered directly from its online store. New choices, styles, and colors are added quite frequently along with links to the company’s latest photo shoots and other eye opening adventures.

Editors Notes: In addition to producing his own line of clothing which include tops, bottoms, and hats; Moustapha Ndiaye’s Renaissance Creative Studios offers facilities and expertise to other designers. These services can include apparel design, fabric sourcing, pattern making, samples and large-scale production. For more information about their vision, the collections or the services offered at RCSLA be sure to visit www.rcsla.com or contact Moustapha Ndiaye, 840 Santee St Suite 604, Los Angeles CA 90014, Phone number 1(310)709-1908.

DONY has a long history of doing its part to promote social responsibility and is excited to announce an exciting community event – "Bus Mask".

We are proud to launch this protective face mask that is not an ordinary mask. Dony Mask has Exclusive Distributors in Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Malaysia, UAE, Canada.”

— Henry Pham, CEO of Dony Garment

HO CHI MINH, VIETNAM, February 9, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — DONY Garment Company, a subsidiary of DONY International Corporation and one of the largest manufacturers of workwear, casual clothing, and uniforms in Viet Nam, has responded to the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic by designing and manufacturing a highly protective, reusable, antibacterial cloth mask.

“We are proud to launch this protective face mask that is not an ordinary mask. We have designed it with care and added all efforts to make it maximum valuable and protective for our customers. We guarantee our products are of the highest quality, an affordable cost, and easy to transport across the world,” said Henry Pham, CEO of Dony Garment.

DONY has a long history of doing its part to promote social responsibility and is excited to announce an exciting community event designed to get masks into people’s hands.

As part of the event, on Saturday, 6 February 2021, DONY brought a bus to Ho Chi Minh City to automatically distribute sets of antibacterial face masks to passersby. The event promoted social distancing and handwashing, ensuring that participants were protected from COVID-19 while they received free masks for themselves and their families.

Saturday’s event was just the first of many stops DONY will make as part of a more extensive campaign to distribute high-quality masks to the city’s residents. In fact, DONY has donated 100,000 antibacterial cloth masks that will be distributed to the people of Vietnam.

This event is consistent with DONY’s commitment to proving to the world that Viet Nam can do great things for companies big and small and people everywhere.

Another purpose behind this event was to encourage people to follow government recommendations for COVID-19 safety practices, particularly in public places. One such regulation requires citizens to wear face coverings.

With people around the world now wearing masks anytime they go out in public to protect against transmitting COVID-19, the flu, or other diseases and viruses, the market is seeing an enormous demand to provide high-quality, affordable masks. DONY Garment is proud to have risen to the challenge, supplying their expertly designed face masks globally by wholesale, bulk order, and even branded custom order.

During Saturday’s event, DONY distributed their Premium antibacterial cloth masks. The DONY Premium antibacterial cloth mask is made from 100 percent antibacterial cotton with unique nano silver technology that is 99% antibacterial, passing some of the most stringent standards in the world.

When DONY Garment set out to design this premium mask, they recognized the need to comply with the rigorous standards from different countries around the world, requiring incredible levels of attention to detail. This commitment to quality enables DONY to export masks to over 35 countries and counting, including the United States, Canada, and countries in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

DONY holds certificates that allow them to export to the U.S. and European markets. Not only that, but DONY premium cloth masks have an Aseptic Inspection Certificate, guaranteeing that they are biologically safe and germ-free, the Intertek Global Certificate, ensuring that they are water and UV resistant and antibacterial even after dozens of washes, as well as TGA, SASO, 870QD, and CFS certificates.

The remarkable features of DONY’s premium cloth face masks were immediately noticeable to participants who received free masks during Saturday’s event. Many people wear single-use surgical masks, which get wet and soiled quickly and create environmental waste.

The DONY mask is water-resistant and reusable, giving it an immediate advantage when compared to traditional masks. It is also super skin-friendly, even for those with sensitive skin, and is comfortable for prolonged use, as it is odor-free, adjustable, and breathable.

Businesses and organizations are proud to offer DONY premium masks because they meet the rigorous requirements for global export and use, provide maximum protection, and are extremely user-friendly.

“At Dony Garment, we are proud to welcome international customers, especially those based in Japan, the Middle East, and the United States, to discover our professional line of products which are manufactured in our factory in Viet Nam, especially our new products for COVID-19,” says Mr. Henry Pham, CEO of DONY Garment Company. “We are proud to launch this protective face mask that is in no way ordinary. We have painstakingly designed it to make it incredibly effective, affordable, and innovative.” To this end, DONY offers free samples, trial orders, bulk wholesale, and more to help partners and customers feel completely comfortable and confident with their order.

Organizations and businesses that want to help connect their employees and consumers with DONY premium masks should consider becoming a partner with DONY Garment Company. DONY offers partners countless benefits, including preferential prices and production speed, phenomenal customer service, help with marketing and public relations related to DONY, access regulatory documents such as proof of certificates, and more.

As this weekend’s community event demonstrated, DONY is no stranger to making headlines and carries an exceptional reputation in Viet Nam and around the world.

Kansas City Quarterback Stuns in Sharp Three-Piece Suit

NASHVILLE, TN, USA, February 8, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — On Sunday, February 7, Kansas City Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was photographed walking into Raymond James Stadium wearing a custom three-piece suit designed by Nashville-based clothier, Richards Bespoke. Mahomes paired his red and black glen check suit with a black and white striped shirt featuring a contrasting white collar and cuffs, red tie and red pocket square, giving a nod to Kansas City’s signature colors.

Richards Bespoke’s team finished the suit just three days before Mahomes wore it on football’s biggest stage. Mahomes and Richards Bespoke’s owner and designer, Stephen Richards Jr., selected each of the outfit’s design elements, including the fabric, stitching and accessories. From there, Richards created the suit from scratch to Mahomes’ exact specifications.

“Patrick has a keen eye for detail and a deep appreciation for style, which made this outfit come to life,” said Richards. “This look was inspired by his favorite suits this season, and we had fun mixing bold patterns.”

Mahomes is no stranger to a tailored suit, having collaborated with Richards on each of his 10 away-game suits this season. The pair has worked together on countless other suits since they met during Mahomes’ rookie season in 2017.

“Growing up watching football, the Big Game has always been important to me,” said Richards. “This year was even better. Seeing my design worn at this level is something I’ll never forget.”

CRANSTON, RI, UNITED STATES, February 4, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — A beautiful Chinese Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or earlier embroidered tapestry, depicting three Buddha figures seated on lotus thrones, sold for $12,500 in an online Estate Fine Art & Antiques auction held January 28th by Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers. The textile was the top lot of the 388-lot auction and was nicely housed in a 37 ¾ inch by 25 ½ inch frame.

“When that Chinese tapestry came through the door, I knew the quality was better than normal,” said Bruneau & Co. president Kevin Bruneau. “However, I wanted to keep expectations low and let bidders make a discovery. The strategy worked. Last auction the same estate consigned two hardstone groupings, which hammered for $6,500 and $7,000. It was a great New York estate.”

Overall, the auction was an eclectic affair, featuring paintings, decorative arts, furniture, jewelry, silver, Asian arts and collectibles, mostly pulled from prominent estates and collections from across New England. Internet bidding was provided by LiveAuctioneers.com, Invaluable.com, Bidsquare.com, Auctionzip.com and the Bruneau & Co platform, Bidlive.BruneauandCo.com.

Following are additional highlights from the auction. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium.

A group of more than 50 items relating to fly fishing – including slides, books, a belt buckle and other ephemera, plus a fish drawing signed by artist John Noga – made $4,688. Books included Salmon Fishing by John James Hardy, four books by Lee Wulff (Trout on a Fly, Leaping Silver and two copies of The Atlantic Salmon), and many others – all from a single-owner collection.

“I love the estate auctions because they’re always a learning experience with the range of items we offer,” said Travis Landry, a Bruneau & Co. auctioneer and the firm’s Director of Pop Culture. “It gives you a good indication of what the market is today for antiques. Now I know to always keep an eye out for fly fishing ephemera when picking.”

A collection of 200 original etchings spanning multiple ages, from the 17th-19th century, bound in a leather book and printed in England by W. Lewis, gaveled for $4,375. The book contained original etchings by Rembrandt, Vivares, Theodore Van Kessel, Cornelius Bega, Castiglione, Hollar and others. It was dated (“1835”) and had a small dedication on the front page, in ink.

An original gouache on paper Arctic marine painting by William Bradford (Mass./Calif., 1823-1892), depicting three large sailing vessels between icebergs and frozen waters, with three smaller boats approaching the central ship, changed hands for $4,375. The painting, which measured 7 ½ inches by 10 ½ inches (sight) was artist signed lower right, “Wm. Bradford”.

An historical archive of items pertaining to the Rhode Island Civic Center – including a large collection of photographs attributed to Moe Parenteau, depicting basketball, hockey and landscapes, with a framed photograph of hockey legend Bobby Orr by Ray Lussier, plus a collection of negatives, film newspaper and pamphlets – all from one collection, hit $3,750.

An oil on canvas depiction of an abstracted nude female form seated at a table and gazing out a window by Sacha Tebo (Fla./Haiti, 1934-2004), went to a determined bidder for $2,375. The figurative abstract interior work, measuring 20 inches by 24 ½ inches (sight, less frame), was artist signed by Tebo upper left and came out of the collection of an Uxbridge, Mass. gentleman.

A single-page letter signed by inventor Thomas Alva Edison, penned in ink in 1884 to Charles L. Clarke, the first president of the Edison Electric Company, by Samuel Insull, an American business magnate and Edison’s personal secretary, gaveled for $2,000. The letter was sent out to the stockholders of the company, with regard to Edison’s efforts to change its board of directors.

Short Film from Hollywood Moviemakers Exposes Nike’s Role in Kangaroo Slaughter

Kangaroo amidst the ongoing Australian wildfires

Kangaroo amidst the ongoing Australian wildfires

Film to shine light on midnight massacre of two million animals for soccer cleats

Nike can no longer hide its responsibility for this atrocity.”

— Gavin Polone

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, February 4, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — An innovative and disturbing short film by Hollywood producer Gavin Polone and director Derek Ambrosi, set for release February 4th, exposes the hidden truth behind Nike soccer shoes made from kangaroo skins, according to the Center for a Humane Economy.

The 60-second short film lays bare an element of Nike’s supply chain that stretches thousands of miles in length and involves an ongoing slaughter of kangaroos in their native habitats. Using reverse sequencing, the film begins with a soccer player’s shoe kicking a ball into the goal, chronologically looking back through the retail supply chain and manufacturing process, to the Australian outback where wild kangaroos are shot and stripped of their skin – for soccer shoes. The market for kangaroo skin soccer shoes is at the core of the largest terrestrial wildlife slaughter on the planet.

"I wanted to expose the bloody truth that is being hidden from well-intentioned consumers who may have no idea how their 'K-leather' shoes are being made,” said Polone. “Nike can no longer hide its responsibility for this atrocity." The film concludes by noting that “Nike Profits. Kangaroos Die.”

See the one-minute film here.

Polone and Ambrosi made the short film with the Center for a Humane Economy and its partners as a creative work in a global campaign to persuade Nike to end its role in the killing of two million wild kangaroos (adults and joeys) every year. The film will be released with partners on three continents. Polone’s other work includes Gilmore Girls, Panic Room, A Dog’s Journey, and Zombieland 2: Double Tap. Ambrosi is known for being the editor of Premium Rush, Mortdecai, You Should Have Left, and director of video collaborations with Jay-Z, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sean Puffy Combs and John Mellencamp.

The campaign came to life after raging bush fires engulfed parts of Australia and burned or displaced three billion animals, including millions of kangaroos. So many people donated to help the koalas and kangaroos, but most people didn’t realize that there was an ongoing massacre of kangaroos that would only add to the carnage.

“Nike officials are not pulling the trigger, but they might as well be,” noted Wayne Pacelle, President of the Center for a Humane Economy. “Using spotlights and night-vision rifle scopes, hired guns kill entire kangaroo families in the dead of night so they can sell the skins to the world’s best-known athletic shoe company.”

The Center for a Humane Economy and its partners have launched a petition urging viewers of the film to join the growing movement to convince Nike to leave the kangaroos alone. More and more clothing manufacturers including Versace, Prada and Gucci, plus Italian soccer shoe manufacturer Diadora, have stopped using kangaroo skins.

SPCA International is partnering with the Center on the short film and is promoting it to its hundreds of thousands of supporters across the world. "SPCA International worked with so many teams on the ground in Australia in 2020 rescuing and rehabilitating kangaroos injured by the devastating bushfires,” said Executive Director Meredith Ayan. “Kangaroos do not deserve to go through that trauma, be nursed back to health and released to the wild only to be killed in a brutal commercial hunt."

Sports stars are also speaking out about Nike’s dirty little secret. “We don’t treat sports as a cordoned-off enterprise set apart from the rest of world and its swirl of social concerns,” said Dotsie Bausch, Olympic cycling silver medalist (2012) speaking for herself as well as for soccer gold medalist Heather Mitts Feeley (2004, 2008, 2012), track-and-field gold medalist David Verburg (2016), and other elite athletes. “That means we care about the things we wear, the supply chain that allows them to be fabricated, and the precious world that we all inhabit with animals.”

Nike, the world’s largest manufacturer of sportswear, is one of seven major athletic shoe companies making soccer shoes from kangaroos. Other manufacturers include adidas, Puma, New Balance, Mizuno, Pantofola d’Oro, Umbro and Lotto. The Center for a Humane Economy has developed a first-of-its-kind list identifying kangaroo skin soccer shoes, or “cleats,” listing 72 models. The list is here.

Australia’s kangaroo killing guidelines, which are voluntary, instruct shooters of female kangaroos to check the pouch for joeys – then to bludgeon them to death. This is the fate of hundreds of thousands of dependent young each year.

“We’re no longer making hats from herons and egrets, we no longer decorate our living rooms with ivory trinkets, and we shouldn’t wear athletic shoes made from the skins of kangaroos,” said Pacelle. “There’s just no need for it. Every one of these companies already sells soccer cleats made from fabrics not stripped from the backs and bodies of wildlife.”
