Low-Waste Halloween Tips: Donate Your Pumpkins to a Farm!

Get creative while using less plastic and saving money this Halloween. Check out these ideas from Franklin County Solid Waste:

  1. Reuse costumes or borrow items from a friend. 92 million tons of textile waste are discarded globally each year, let's use what we have!
  2. Use cardboard to DIY spooky decorations, no need to buy new plastic decor.
  3. Use a bag or basket for trick-or-treating!
  4. Compost, eat, or donate your carved pumpkins to a farm. Livestock love to snack on pumpkins as a treat—no chemically treated or painted pumpkins please! 21% of waste generated is from food, let's not send our pumpkins to the landfill.

Farms accepting pumpkin donations: (until November 27th)

  • Brenneman and Bucks Farm- 2820 Bald Knob Rd
  • Lopez Land Farm- 2400 Bridgeport-Benson Rd
  • Bluegrass Bounty Farm- 875 S Benson Rd
